In the first posting we talked about fire extinguishers and anchors. The second post we talked about electronics. In this post we will be talking about miscellaneous items that should be carried

As one of the most important things to carry should be a set of extra fuel filters. You'd be surprised how many Marina are there have water in there a few. And that's not a very pleasant thought being out in the water in your engine won't start due to trash in your fuel system.

The second item that should be taken into consideration would be a complete set of belts and water pump and maybe an alternator.

I think I would a few extra light bulbs, about 3 gallons of oil, and fuses .

In these articles and I wrote I'm back with your boat most of that is from what I've read and lot of his display no common sense.

Equip your boat ll

Well in equip your boat one we talked about anchors and fire extinguishers.  Here in boat mm we or going to talk about electronics and what you really need and why.

This is all you really need as for electronics,  a good chart plotter with a gaps, a good depth sounder and a good VHS radio. On the radio I think depending where you or going depends on what you need in radios. I myself prefer the marine SSB,and the reason s longer range and more people can here you. Most VHF's have a twenty five mile radius and an SSB has a four thousand plus range. Then is the ham radio, and that come in handy some times. I will did read about a fellow out on his sail boat and needed help andthe only way he got help was thru ham relaying cause no other radio worked out in the middle of the ocean.

Next you should have a good chart plotter with a built in gaps. Your chart plotter lays out your route to follow. The gaps will show you serial things that you need to know depending how you have set up. It's main function is to tell you where or at ,at all times. Some of the other functions is speed,some have fuel usage, and your times .

The depth sounder is to keep you in touch with the bottom of where your at. It will let you know when you or getting to shallow and keep you of ground. Running aground can cost you several hundernd to several thousand dollars.  What a way to ruin a trip too.

How to equip your boat

Well this post is about equippi your boat,from what I have been reading. First of all Iam not an expert on boating but I have owned a few of them over the years. A lot of this information is just good old common sense.

Let's start with the anchoring system. You should have two main anchors, one should be a Danforth Fluke anchor and the other should be a plow type system. The third anchor I would prefer would be some type of a fluke anchor.

This should be the proper way of setting up an anchor. First you should have at least twenty five feet of three eights chain and then add a hundernd and fifty to two hundred feet of anchor rope to them. Now your set on the anchors.

Next you will need some fire extinguishers. Now this is a very important part of you safety while your on board. On my boat I have five lbs.in the galley, one five lbs.in the salon area, and two and a half lbs.in the berth. Being Id1o not haven boards I have two five lbs.mounted at the rear of the stern. So that will take care of my fire extinguishers. 

WHEN YOU ARE IN THE BERTH ALWAYS HAVE THE HATCH UNLATCH,THIS IS YOUR ONLY  WAY OUT IF SOMETHING UP FRONT HAPPENS.

Remember you need one life jacket for each person on board. In most states if you us the inflatable you must be wearing them for them to count.

Your boat

Well what is the best.boat to do the loop in? That is a really a 64 dollar question for some people. So me people need big forty to fifty feet long,some people need less then twenty feet long,and what I have read the best size is twentyeight to thirty two feet.

So the big boats or deep pocket boats, these boats have a lot more luxury items and sort of a go fast boat too. The most popular boat is the twentyeight to thirty two foot boat.

The most popular make of oat is a Trawler,and that is a true Trawler too. Why they say that is a true Trawler is a full displacement and a look alike is a smiedisplacement.You say what does all that mean to a non boater? Well the frisst thing it means is deep pockets for money.

Most true Trawlers are very roomy and equipped with only one motor and or a full displacement hull. A displacement hull is like a sail boat hull,it splits the water and is very good smooth and is not a plainer. There fore it does not burn half much fuel as a smile displacement boat does.  ,

I read an artical to day about thi s fellow had bought himself a Trawler ,he thought.Most true Trawlers do not have two motors nor will they get on top of the water and plain out. As I read the story he was very pleased on how it road in the water and the room it had in it. Here is the shocker it cost him thirtyeight thousand dollars in fuel to do the Great American Loop, so there is the defferance in a displacement and a smiedisplacemet hull.

Also that might also mean biggest is not always better. So I will stay with what I got and make the loop in a slow pace.

What a dray day here in So. Texas. There is not much going on here at the harbor due to the weather. It is wet,windy,and cold here and it looks like it will be here until Thursday if we or lucky. We the weather is like this it is hard to do anything on the boat.

Well to day I'm 1going to do some reading and figuring out our trip. The first thing that I will be doing is to find all the marina's along the way. Then after that I will need to figure the mileage between them. According to what I have read is fifty miles a day is a good travel. Most people people try to get to a there next stop by the here pm ,that way they can fuel up ,dock ,,and then go out on t he town and do some sightseeing.  Sounds like a plan to me. I have also read that most blooper do not travel in the rain either. I can see why ,because most bloopers navigate from there flybridge and of them or open this time of year.

Birthday and Christmas present from my daughter

Yes we were in Lowes Saturday afternoon just doing some shopping and lo and behold my daughter grabs this microwave and says Happy Birthday pop. That is much needed for my boat one less appliance that I have to purchase myself. I'm very thankful for that much needed and very nice-looking microwave. So we're just moving on down the road working on the Carrie Michelle. Today's kind of a dreary day about 55 degrees kind of dis chills you to the bone out there. But I'm fixing to get started on the stairwell take it apart and get all painted up and get ready to to reinstall it and get the handrails on it. That'll be one less project that I have to do one completed well I guess that's it for today until next post y'all have a blessed day, Herald
